Free Ademo!

Published by:

Yesterday morning I arrived in Manchester.

Dale Everett of Anarchy In Your Head and Flaming Freedom picked me up from the bus terminal on Canal St and brought me to “In Your Head Studios,” where I will be staying for a few days producing media.

Today is the day of Ademo Freeman’s trial. He is a dear friend of mine, and I am expecting him to put on the show of a lifetime–not for me, but for the jury. I feel fortunate that I will be able to witness what will surely be an incredible performance today.

There is a 5-car caravan that left Keene at 6:30am packed with activists. There are liberty activists rushing in from all over the state to get there early and make their presence and support visible to the media (both independent and mainstream).

I will post an update on Ademo’s trial at my next opportunity. Stay tuned!

Keene PD Denies License AGAIN??

Published by:

What do the Keene Police have to hide?

Today (Aug 7, 2012) I called the Keene Police Department to check the status of my Concealed Carry License application. I applied for the license on July 20. It’s my understanding that NH law requires that the local police department “shall-issue” all valid applicants within 14 days (10 business days) of applying. Applicants must call and ask for an answer–they will not call you. However, if a person has NOT been approved, they will mail that person with an explanation as to why they were denied, and they must do that within 14 days. The clerk (Pat) at the records department said that my application was not in the “approved” pile, and that the man in charge of applications (Michael Goodchild) was on vacation until Aug. 20. She gave me his voicemail, and I left a message. In his voicemail recording, he directs callers to contact Jim McLaughlin with any issues. When I phoned Jim McLaughlin and told him I was audio recording, he told me he did not consent to being recorded and redirected my call to Michael Goodchild’s voicemail again. The third time I called, I explained to the clerk what had happened and asked to speak with someone who would talk to me on the record. After waiting on hold for a few minutes, Pat returned and said that the “Chief of Police” Ken Meola told her that “Captain” Costa would call me back today regarding this issue. Very curious…

Fundraising for Exile

Published by:

Today I am painting a neighbor’s house for some cash.  Tomorrow I’ll be weeding another neighbor’s garden.  This is how I’ve been raising money while I prepare for the “Tour” part of my Exile to kick off (Aug 18th).  It’s therapeutic putting my body to work at these tasks, though I would much rather be filming and editing videos with a liberty message.  I’m making the best of this time though, and I’m finding that making connections with neighbors and providing services for them is rewarding in a different–almost spiritual–way.

Even if I work this way every day for the next 2 weeks, I still won’t be totally prepared for Exile.  I’ll need some money for Greyhound tickets, meals, and crash-spaces, as well as the ever-important livestreaming services I’ll be using to document the journey.  Some supporters of mine have chosen to donate to help me cover these costs.  You can too!  I’m already 43% of the way to completing my goal of raising $1,000 to begin the tour.  Read more about how you can support me here.  To those who have already donated, thanks for your support!

Fun on Freedom Feens

Published by:

Today was my first time on the entertaining podcast “Freedom Feens” by Michael W. Dean and Neema Vedadi.   It’s a twice-a-week podcast, and this was their first-ever Live Call-in edition, which was exciting, being that my background is with a call-in show.  It was strange being on the other end of a call-in show, and I even embarrassed myself a bit by revealing that I wasn’t sure if I should mute the show while I spoke.  Even still, I had a wonderful time plugging the film, which both the hosts seemed to have enjoyed, and I look forward to making a return to the podcast in the near future.

Michael has also produced a documentary, called “Guns & Weed,” (two of my favorite things!) so he knows a bit about what goes into such a venture.  The interview went deeper into depth about the behind-the-scenes aspects of many entertaining scenes which had to be cut down for time and may have left the viewer with some questions.

For example, why were the female officers in Philadelphia telling me I couldn’t walk down the street where I lived?  Who was filming the crossing guard when she hit the camera?

I was on for about 15 minutes before I was booted in favor of another guest, but I guess it serves me right for not calling in right away.  I’ll learn my lesson next time!

The next radio show for which I am scheduled to appear as a guest is the Liberty Cap Radio Show Saturday night at 8pm.  I’ll keep everyone in the loop with a link to listen in as that date approaches.  For now, enjoy the podcast from this morning by following this link here.

Official Press Release Goes LIVE!

Published by:

Kari DePhillips of PR firm The Content Factory wrote up an official press release for Derrick J’s Victimless Crime Spree, which can be seen here.  Kari did a remarkable job at presenting the information in a scintillating and succinct way.  She was able to walk me through every step of the way and made helpful recommendations about how to stay at the front of the action.  I am extremely grateful for her very professional services and will be sure to follow her advice in the future.  For those of you who do not know Kari, she is the strikingly eloquent young beauty who graced our televisions on the likes of CNN and FOX (Video).

Previously, Ian Freeman had written up press releases about activities with which I’d been involved.  For example, he sent out e-mails to a list of news agencies regarding our arrests at the Cheshire County Superior Courthouse for “criminally trespassing” (on public property).  Those were always good and got the point across in a brief message, but I know professionalism when I see it, and this press release sets the bar high.  If anyone, activist or otherwise, is looking for a hand promoting a message or event, consider Kari from the Content Factory.  I’m glad I chose her!

Victimless Crime Spree Premiers TONIGHT!

Published by:

So, tonight is the culmination of a year and a half’s work.

2 years ago around this time I decided I would move to New Hampshire as part of the Free State Project. “Don’t worry,” I told my Philly friends, “I’ll only be there 6 months to a year…just to try it out.” Well, I ended up getting arrested 5 times and thrown in jail 4 times, serving 63 days total. So much for that. So things didn’t turn out EXACTLY as I had planned, but that’s cool too. My plans shifted, and “shift” happens. I am adjusting. Some friends (Ian Freeman and Beau Davis) and I made a movie about my year in Keene to help show other people how exciting it can be to make the move to New Hampshire and get active for the cause of liberty.

Now the documentary is coming out and people are going to see what happens when a “normal” person starts challenging authority. I wonder what the reaction will be…

My Life’s A Mess Right Now

Published by:

Woo!! I finally have a working internet connection.

Well, I feel like I’ve been living in the dark ages. Thank you, faithful subscribers of this blog, for holding in there. Tonight is THE NIGHT of the premier of “Derrick J’s Victimless Crime Spree” documentary and I’m feeling OVERWHELMED by all that there is to do, now that I finally have a reliable internet connection (which happened TODAY for the first time since I left the Shire 2 weeks ago).

Here’s what’s going on:
I want to be updating everyone with pictures, video, etc. BUT!!!

I used to do all that stuff in the Shire–Keene, specifically, which is the liberty media capital of the world. My mom and dad don’t get what I’m doing at all and they’re like, “It’s great to see you! Now go do these chores.” And I’m like, “GUYS! I have a million and one things to do! People are counting on me to update them on all this exciting stuff that’s going on and–” nope….so I’ve been getting sunburn, bug bites, and resisting the daily temptation to drown myself as I attempt to reassemble my life after jail.

See, after jail, all my stuff was in boxes, in this big heap just waiting to be taken to NJ. But I didn’t have my car!! After waiting almost A MONTH for my car to be returned to me, I finally drove it down to NJ, where I worked my tuckus off cleaning and scrubbing it so that it would sell. It’s been for sale almost 2 weeks, and still no sale 🙁

Why does that suck? Because the laptop which I’m using to post this update is NOWHERE near powerful enough to run video editing software anymore. It’s my 6-year-old MacBook from college, and it’s ready to die, but like a geriatric in a nursing home, I am keeping it alive well past its expiration date. I was planning on selling the car, buying a laptop, and bada-bing, get right back into the swing of editing videos. Well…no car sale…no laptop. So here I am in limbo.

Also, my video camera broke before I went into jail. No big deal, I used one of the thousands of cameras lying around in the Shire ready for any activist to utilize. But here in NJ, that’s a big problem. I have nothing to take pictures or video with, so I can’t update the world on what’s going on except in text. BLAHHHH Who reads text? Let’s face it, the internet is about pictures and video. So I’m hoping to keep everyone’s attention for the next month as I figure all this out, get my car and some other things sold, and get the tools that I need to keep this whole thing running.

In the meantime, I’m DYING to change over this blog to another format that looks prettier/more professional/less cluttery, and I have some other needs for buying a domain name to use as a splash page or something so that folks can easily find me when they look me up. But I don’t know how to do that, so I’m figuring it out.

Basically, the whole story boils down to this. I’m working on it. I’m new at this. It’s going to be AMAZING when it happens. Bear with me. Please and thank you.

I was thinking of hosting a contest on that YouTube page and having it go something like this:

The creator of the most “Liked” image for a Button gets 20 buttons of his or her design.
